(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. an apartment fire on treasure island claiming the life of a 10-year-old girl. tonight, loved ones are remebering core-lina godfrey. they held a candelight vigil where she died. she was killed yesterday in a two-alarm apartment fire. it happened at around 12-15 in the morning. on the 12-hundred block of mariner drive. five people escaped. but cornlina godfrey did not make it. kron four's philippe djegal with those who knew godfrey. saying they still can't believe she's gone. >> reporter: close to one hundred friends, family and

neighbors of 10-year-old corn-lina godfrey sharing hugs and tears. in front of the building godfrey lost her life saturday on treasure island. she was a fourth grader st john muir elementary school in san francisco. where her classmates and teachers say she'll be sorely missed. gamal i knew her as a sweet and loving the girl who just received an academic award on thursday. >> i have also two children. and it hurts, it hurts a lot. >> we are all pray for her just to hang in there. hopefully, she will understand that the community is here for her if she needs anything. and just to let her know that we feel our pain. >> reporter: on treasure island, philippe djegal, kron four news.

>> police are searching for suspects in a shooting that happened in east palo alto this afternoon. around 2:30 p-m police responded to reports of shots fired outside a home there they found a 30-year- old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the legs. a suspect vehicle was found nearby a short while later but was unoccupied. limited information on the suspect and the motive remains unclear. >> a violent predator is on loose in san francisco. and women are the targets. the attacks are happening in the city's mission and noe valley neighborhoods. kron4's maureen kelly has details and reaction from people who live there. >> it's really scary >> reporter: a community on edge.because of this man. this sketch. recently released by police.of the suspect in two assaults. both timesthe female victims were walking alone late at night. the most recent attack.happening on feburary 2nd on bartlett at 23rd. >> reporter: that a woman was walking here. a man that

>> an investigation into what caused a boat and a ferry to collide. injuring two people. still on going tonight. the accident happened yesterday between a golden gate ferry and a 22-foot motorboat. this is video from our helicopter partnership with a-b-c-seven news. investigators were trying to in the crash on the san francisco bay. according to golden gate transit, the motorboat was traveling at high speed when it collided with the ferry. all five crew members aboard will be drug tested and placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation. >> a man is behind bars in santa cruz after going on a string of burglaries. kron 4's scott rates shows us the bizzare way that police were able to track down the crook. >> reporter: police say this stated here, started.... at the khyber pass restaurant when the thief busting through these doors during the night, then walking up to the cash register, he pried it open with screw driver. he was able to get nearly $ 175 from the cash register however, and after searching the bad guys digital camera santa cruz police were able

followed the vehicle in an attempt to get a license plate number. that's when the security guard heard four-to-five shots fired at him from the passenger side window. the security guard backed off but continued to follow the van as it fled onto highway 101. >> tonight, arkansas authorities are reporting the death of country music star mindy mccready. the cause. an apparent suicide. there were 911 reports of her body on the front porch. it was an apparent self- inflicted gunshot wound. she struggled with the addiction she has to children. she was 37 years old, the father of the children took his own life

>> a convicted rapist is behind bars after fleeing to mexico. 20-year-old spencer scarber was arrested by mexican authorities in acapulco on thursday on suspicion of using a false name and identification. scarber has been wanted since fleeing fresno county back in december. three days before he was convicted of rape. robbery. and burglary charges. his father kyle scarber. an h-p's central division. along with his mother and sister were arrested on saturday for allegedly helping scarber escape. >> a undercover sting busts businesses in sonoma valley selling alcohol to minors. round table pizza, hop monk tavern cited for selling alcohol to an underage decoy.

>> in a turn of events. people *supporting accused cop killer christopher dorner demonstrated in front of an l-a police department. the protesters say they didn't agree with dorner's actions, but accuse the police of brutality and corruption. some say they believe dorner's accusations of racism and unfair treatment in the l-a-p-d. others accused police of acting as "judge, jury, and executioner" by killing dorner. people, citing his motive as revenge for his dismisal by the l-a-p-d. thousands across the country protesting against the extension of an oil pipeline. today, the video behind me shows what it looked like at the nation's capitol. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with environmentalists. and, explains why they rallied in san francisco against the keystone x-l pipeline. this will go from canada to the gulf of mexico it is one of the dirtiest form of oil. in the next 60 these-100 days they are possibly going to make a decision.

>> reporter: extending this pipeline would be devastating. destroying forests environmentalistsby all accounts. the protest here at justin herman plaza was peaceful. the san francisco police department saying they made no arrests. organizers tell kron four that some five thousand people took part in the protest. calling on president obama to take a stand on climate change and reject the proposed keystone x-l pipeline. an extension of the original keystone pipeline. the local sierra club says this is an important step in curbing carbon emissions. the sierra club says there were 25 other similar rallies across the country. one of which in washington d-c. where tens of thousands held signs and marched on the national mall. michelle myers with the says. the president needs to act fast. the sierra club says the entire keystone pipeline project costs roughly 12- billion dollars. in san francisco, philippe apartments are a hot commodity if you plan on living in san francisco.

they're hard to come by in just about any neighborhood. realtors tell kron 4's alecia reid that there are potential renters vying for the same apartment, so having your money ready is key. >> reporter: to live in san francisco you have to be willing to pay the pricean depending on the neighborhood and amenities, you'll have to dig deeper in your pockets. we have a one bedroom that we're renting. we were renting it for $1800, but now we're renting it for $3000. the response we've gotten is good so i don't think we'll have any problems renting it. i'dsay the last year to year and a half is when rents have become so high. it's higher than i've ever seen them. i attribute it all to the tech industry and people that work. they have the money and they'll pay it. >> reporter: but not everyone can afford to pay upwards of 2 to 3 thousand dollars a month in rent. many people we spoke to are buddying up in order to call the city home. sot - right now i'm actually trying to find a roommate. rent is expensive
